Planning: Magazines and Posters

BASIC POSTER PLAN - IDEA 1

Final Magazine Cover

Our poster features many aspects of a conventional Sight and Sound magazine, as it follows the main template and is eye catching and engaging to an audience.

We feel this poster lacks emotion, and does not give enough of a hint as to what the film is about. It is also not recognisable enough that the photo was taken in London, which is a unique selling point of our film. The character appears lost and disengaged, not creating an emotional connection with the audience. However the grain effect does give it a realism edge, as if it is a poster put up in a town centre.

Poster Ideas

We decided to use the colour blue in our final poster, as it fits in with the conventions of British social realism posters. It presents the feeling of hope, as well as a hint of sadness which is what we aim to do in our trailer. It would also draw in viewers, as it creates a sense of optimism. The image is set against a plain background, as in the Billy Elliot and Submarine trailers, as this also seems to be a convention of realism films, and it also keeps the focus on the protagonist.
